Frequently Asked Questions
What is AMC 8?
AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute math competition for students in grade 8 and below, organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Topics include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, number theory, probability, and combinatorics. Scores range from 0 to 25 with no penalty for wrong answers.
How should I prepare for AMC 8?
The most effective method is consistent practice with real past problems under timed conditions. MathPrepare Pro generates full 25-question mock exams drawn from authentic AMC 8 problems from 1999 onward. After each exam, review solutions for every question you missed and track your weakest topics in the analytics dashboard.
What math topics appear on AMC 8?
AMC 8 problems cover arithmetic, number theory, algebra, geometry, probability, combinatorics, and logic. MathPrepare Pro automatically tags each question by topic so you can see which areas need the most attention.
What is the difference between AMC 8, AMC 10, and AMC 12?
AMC 8 is for grade 8 and below (25 questions, 40 min). AMC 10 and AMC 12 are for grades 10 and 12 and below respectively (30 questions, 75 min) and cover more advanced pre-calculus and calculus-adjacent content. Strong AMC 10/12 scores qualify students for the AIME.
Is MathPrepare Pro free?
Yes. The web app is free and provides full AMC 8 practice with no account required. For the complete question sets for AMC 10, AMC 12, and AIME, download the free iOS or Android mobile app.
Can I pause an exam and continue later?
Yes. MathPrepare Pro saves your entire exam state — answers, timer, and current question — to your browser's local storage. You can close the browser and resume exactly where you left off.
What is AIME?
AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination) is a 15-question, 3-hour competition taken by students who score in the top ~2.5% on AMC 10 (≥120/150) or AMC 12 (≥100/150). Answers are integers from 000 to 999. AIME scores feed into the selection process for the USA(J)MO.
How does the needs review list work?
Every question you answer incorrectly on a mock exam is automatically added to your Needs Review list (up to 10 slots by default). You can open any item, re-attempt the question, and study the solution. Once you answer correctly, the item is marked as reviewed. The list keeps your practice focused on the problems you actually struggle with.
AMC 8, AMC 10, AMC 12, and AIME are administered by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). MathPrepare Pro is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with the MAA.
